Improved shipping capacity of 8 to 10 percent, while withstanding the extreme conditions inside sea containers

CHEP Automotive Solutions, the global leader in container pooling services, announced today the introduction of the IcoQube, a range of automotive containers specifically designed to provide a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution to some of the problems automotive manufacturers and suppliers face with intercontinental shipping.

The stackable IcoQube container, which is available in four sizes, completely fills either a 40 foot high or standard sea container, resulting in improved shipping capacity of 8 to 10 percent, when compared to conventional disposable packaging.

The IcoQube’s sturdy and robust construction, ensures greater protection for the goods during shipment, and being reusable, significantly reduces the waste associated with traditional packaging.

IcoQube automotive containers are an exciting step forward in CHEP’s ability to solve some of the most important automotive supply chain issues experienced by our customers, including:

  • The extreme climate conditions and high levels of humidity found inside sea vessels and shipping containers. For example, when crossing the equator, temperatures can rapidly rise more than 60 degrees Celsius.
  • Containers must be able to withstand forces of up to 2 g-force’s.
  • Damage to automotive parts during transport because cardboard boxes often collapse under these extreme conditions.

“With more than 35 years of exceptional service to the automotive sector, CHEP takes pride in aligning our team and our solutions to address unique market needs.” said Jason Rabbino, Group President Containers. “IcoQube is a continuation of this heritage and opens up exciting opportunities for OEMs, and Tier suppliers, to achieve their operational, financial and sustainability goals.  Our team is excited to work with existing and new customers in the deployment of IcoQube and have been very pleased by the tremendous interest from a wide range of global launch customers.”

Reducing expensive, high-risk and environmentally unfriendly one-way corrugated packaging has long been an important goal of the automotive industry and with IcoQube CHEP is introducing a product and service offering that makes this goal a reality.
