Innovative packaging puts CHEP in line for environmental award
CHEP Australia has been named a finalist in the NSW Government's
13th Green Globe Awards announced today.
The NSW Office of Environment and Heritage's sustainability
award, the Green Globes, recognise environmental excellence,
leadership and innovation.
CHEP has been named a finalist in the Environmental Innovation
category for the development of its beverage tray equipment pool
for the fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector. The Environmental
Innovation award recognises new technology, design or research that
results in significant resource savings, new approaches in
sustainable practice or innovative change in environmental
The CHEP beverage tray eliminates around 1,250 tonnes of one-way
cardboard packaging waste each year from the beverage supply
Business Development Manager Frank Vittoria says, "CHEP led a
collaborative project to 'imagine a more innovative beverage supply
chain', that included reduced environmental impacts. The result was
the pool of reusable multi-purpose beverage trays, which will hold
either 1.25 litres carbonated soft drink bottles or 2 litre juice
"The trays are also a "one-touch" packaging solution, which
means the same packaging is used for storage, transportation
and in-store retail displays. Our lightweight, stackable tray
design minimises transport fuel use and associated greenhouse gas
emissions. We're delighted that the tray has reduced the
environmental impact of the beverage supply chain."
CHEP is the global leader in container and pooling services,
operating out in more than 50 countries with 7700 employees. It
supplies reusable pallets and containers for use throughout the
supply chain by manufacturers, distributors and retailers.
The Green Globe Award winners will be announced on 3 September
