CHEP celebrates 40 years in the New Zealand supply chain
In June 2014, CHEP New Zealand will celebrate 40 years of local supply chain support, a significant milestone for the company that was the first to bring equipment pooling to New Zealand in 1974.
CHEP NZ Country Manager, Mike O’Brien, said: “This is an exciting milestone for our staff, customers and industry partners – many of whom have been with us for a significant part of the last 40 years.
“Prior to entering the New Zealand market, local businesses had to buy their own pallets. Our first benefit for these businesses proved to be significant cost savings.
“Today, CHEP offers a range of high quality solutions and services that help many industries improve their supply chains – from aerospace and manufacturing, to consumer goods and fresh food. Our most recent products are testament to our commitment to providing solutions for greater efficiency and value.”
These products, including the Lift Lock Reusable Produce Crate (RPC) and the Half Display Pallet, have been received particularly well by the New Zealand market.
“We are in the fortunate position of working with many industry leaders, enabling us to learn and adapt our solutions to improve outcomes for our broad customer base,” Mr O’Brien said.
Local investment, partnerships and sustainability keys to a bright future
CHEP has a longstanding commitment to doing the right thing by its customers, environment, people and communities. Nationwide service centre upgrades, completed in 2013, demonstrate CHEP New Zealand’s commitment to the local market and to improving safety and quality.
“Moving forward, sustainability and partnerships are key priorities,” Mr O’Brien said.
“We achieved a 96 per cent timber recycling rate and a 59 per cent reduction in waste to landfill in 2013, and we aim to improve on these results in 2014.
“Initiatives such as joint customer supply chain improvement plans with our partners will also help us work in a more sustainable fashion.”
